Zhangjiajie 3-Day Plan
A practical three-day Zhangjiajie route covering the national forest park, Tianmen Mountain and the transfer logic that keeps the trip from dissolving into queues.
Route: Zhangjiajie

Who this suits
Active travellers who want the core Zhangjiajie experience without padding it into five days. Expect stairs, shuttle lines and early starts.
What it costs
¥3,500–6,000 per person, including two nights in Wulingyuan or the city, tickets, shuttles and local transport. Long-distance flights excluded.
Book in this order
- 1Buy the multi-day forest park ticket in advance during busy periods; passport checks are routine.
- 2Book Tianmen Mountain’s first cable-car slot if possible — queues snowball after mid-morning.
- 3Stay in Wulingyuan for the park days, not in the city, unless you arrive very late on day one.
Day by day
- 1
Forest Park: Yuanjiajie and the main viewpoints
Use the first full day for the core national forest park circuit: Yuanjiajie, the Avatar pillar viewpoints and the main shuttle spine.
- Sleep
- Zhangjiajie (Wulingyuan)
- Getting around
- Airport or station to Wulingyuan by DiDi, roughly 45–60 minutes.
- Book
- Hotel only; park ticket if arriving before evening.
- Daily cost
- ¥350–650 (excl. hotel)
- 2
Forest Park: Tianzi Mountain or a slower trail day
Take the second park day for Tianzi Mountain and the upper viewpoints, or use it to slow down if day one was swallowed by queues.
- Sleep
- Zhangjiajie (Wulingyuan)
- Getting around
- Park shuttle buses, Bailong Elevator and walking trails throughout the day.
- Book
- Forest Park ticket and elevator add-ons.
- Daily cost
- ¥500–900 (excl. hotel)
- 3
Tianmen Mountain and departure
Book the first cable-car slot you can get, do the glass walkways and mountain circuit, then leave from the city rather than forcing another scenic stop.
- Sleep
- Zhangjiajie (city) or departure
- Getting around
- DiDi to Tianmen cable-car station; cable car, shuttle and escalators through the mountain circuit.
- Book
- Timed Tianmen slot; book the day before in peak season.
- Daily cost
- ¥550–950 (excl. hotel)
If the plan does not fit
If weather turns bad
Move Tianmen Mountain to the clearer day and keep the forest park as the more flexible option. Fog can still be beautiful; storms are the real problem.
Add a fourth day only if you love hiking
A fourth day makes sense for slower trails and less shuttle dependence. It is not necessary just to “complete” Zhangjiajie.
